The department implements the three-tier training process in the specified speciality subject according to the "Bachelor-Master-PhD" system.
At the During the the bachelor's programs, students can major in one of the following areas: "Health and safety in the technosphere", "Environmental engineering", "Safety in emergency situations."
The training profile “Health and safety in the technosphere” is based on the study of general industrial safety requirements, hazards analysis methods and a quantitative risk assessment of industrial accidents and natural disasters, industrial safety expertise procedures and other technical measures related to the operation of hazardous technical facilities.
Profile “Environmental Engineering” is based on studies of technologies for protecting the atmosphere, hydrosphere; environmental monitoring, environmental assessment of territories; development of projects of permissible emissions and discharges, standards for waste generation and limits for their disposal, projects for design of sanitary protection zones.
Profile “Safety in emergency situations” is based on studies of organization and management of activities for predicting, preventing, eliminating the consequences of natural and man-made emergencies, analyzing, assessing the risk of emergencies, their forecasting using geoinformation systems and modern software systems.
At the During the Master’s programs students can choose among five specialized educational programs:
“Complex use of water resources”, “Acoustics of the environment”, “Physical and chemical technologies for protecting the atmosphere”, “Industrial safety engineering”.
All master's programs reflect the specifics of the scientific activities of the department and are based on the existing material and technical base.
“Complex usage of water resources”. Researches in this area have been carried out at in the department during the last 30 years. Today up to 40 innovative water treatment facilities have been commissioned by the department that are protected with over 150 copyright certificates and patents. The main areas of activity are: development and design of wastewater treatment plants, reconstruction of drinking and domestic water treatment plants, development of new methods and devices for water treatment, new technologies for soils treatment contaminated with oil products and heavy metals. The laboratory of the department is equipped with modern equipment and scientific and educational facilities.
“Acoustics of the environment”. The laboratory of industrial acoustics of the department has extensive experience in reducing noise and vibration of machinery and equipment related to various industries, creating a comfortable acoustic environment in the city, office, workshop. A novel state of the art laboratory has been opened in the Mytyschy branch in 2019.
“Physical and chemical technologies for protecting the atmosphere”. Over the years, the department has carried out researches in the field of protecting the air from pollution. Systems for cleaning ventilation and technological emissions were developed. The main activity areas are: protecting the atmosphere from hydrocarbon vapors during storage, processing and transportation, protecting the atmosphere from emissions of organic compounds and aerosols using adsorption and vortex methods.
“Industrial safety engineering”. For more than 15 years of the existence of this research area, the department has developed methods for predicting the risk of natural and man-made emergencies, methods for monitoring and analyzing them, as well as algorithms for assessing the consequences of emergencies of various nature.
